Scope of the Project

According to the city of West Allis, W. Mitchell St. from S. 56th to S. 60th is one of the streets that will have “concrete reconstruction of and private side lead water service lateral replacement” performed on them this year.  Work has already begun in our area, causing a challenge for visitors to find parking on the streets and to access our parking lot and church building.  Continue reading for an update on the project, instructions for how to best access our church, and pictures of the construction progress.

Updates

June 20

General Update

  • Mitchell St.  =  Closed to thru traffic  (from 56th - 60th streets)
    • I would advise not driving down Mitchell St. this Sunday because there are more than the usual amount of obstacles on the road.
  • 57th St.  =  Closed to thru traffic  (from Lapham St. to Mitchell St.)
    • However, you are permitted to drive down 57th St. and park on the street.
  • Parking
    • The best way to access the parking lot is to drive down the alley from Lapham St. to the north.  (If you do this, please be careful and be prepared to move to the side if any motorists are driving in the opposite direction).
    • If you park on 57th St. (north of Mitchell St.), you can access the church by walking on the sidewalk in between the parsonage and the church and entering through the back door on the northwest corner of the church.

No Access

  • Portions of the sidewalks along both sides of Mitchell St.
  • The emergency exit door towards the southeast portion of the church.

Limited Access

  • Mitchell St. from 56th - 60th streets.
  • Street parking along both sides of Mitchell St.
  • The sidewalks  
    • The workers lifted the sidewalk along Mitchell St. to run pipes underneath. 
    • The lifted portions of the sidewalk which present a safety hazard to pedestrians and/or might cause damage to vehicles are spray-painted pink. 
  • The ramp  
    • The ramp can still be used, but the uneven portions of the sidewalks will present some difficulty and/or a safety hazard.

Still Accessible

  • Street parking along both sides of 57th St.
  • The front steps, main doors, and alley door.
  • The parking lot.
  • The alley (from Lapham St. to the north).
    • If you choose to access the parking lot by driving down the alley from the north, please drive slow for the safety of our neighbors!
  • Street parking along both sides of 57th St. (further north from the Mitchell St. intersection). 
    • N.B.  Available street parking is subject to change come service time.
